It seems common that the oyster shell is used to increase pH value, but in exchange for that, hardness of water increases turning the water into hard water so to speak.
Hard water is not good for skin of Koi as mucous is torn apart by characteristics of hard water.
For making pH at stable condition, Bio Sponge and Bacto Power are definitely of greater help.
Minerals are eluted from Mineral plus by taking advantage of what acid works on that.
Koi takes in minerals dissolved into the water through chrolide cells in the gills or through its mouth.
Otherwise, phytoplankton and zoopankton would take those minerals in which ends up in the process of koi taking in altogeher.
The same goes for algae, moss.
I would like to talk about the minerals in nature.
This might ring any bells to breed huge koi.
① Are you aware that the fish in the Atlantic ocean is bigger than the ones in the Pacific ocean.
The reason why is that there are numbers of sea floor volcanos which put out mineral waters.
It is no wonder that said mineral water contains quite a few minerals.
② Are you aware that in the middle of pacific ocean, there is no small fish exists.
Food chain is not completed as there is no river running into the middle of pacific ocean which is supposed to
bring the minerals forward there.
Minerals ⇒ Phytoplankton ⇒ Zooplankton ⇒ small fish ・・・as such food chain.
③ The fish in Canadian west coast is twice as big as the fish in other regions.
In that particular region, high concentration minerals are flowed into the sea from forest through rivers.
Aforementioned 3 examples might back up my theory that fish grows big in the regoins in which there is plenty of minerlas.
In fact, some of nishikigoi breeders tried to use Mineral plus to see if amount of minerals has a lot to do with
the growth of nishikigoi.
The outcome is that massive amount of water flea came out in the pond for newly born fish and it turns out that
the fish grows 30% bigger than average years.
The fish must be eating water flea which has plenty of minerals taken in.
