【What mucousal fluid works for】
Mucous works to adjust osmotic pressure and minimize water resistance in order to
making it easier for Koi to swim. Not only for those, it plays following important roles.
・Solidify pathogen fit to mucous, or dissolving it to disacharge.
Koi is not in good condition under bad water condition and in that case, mucousal fluid
appears no good like watery and not sufficient which I suppose have impact on skin
complexion to a certain extent.
Fish family like Koi is quite sensitive to pH. In terms of acid levels, difference by 1
degree tuns into difference by tenfold , likewise, difference by 2 turns into hundredfold.
In that sence, pH is of significance in such way that puts stress on Koi.
The white bubbles on water in concrete pond are from disposed mucous, left-over feed,
excrement all of which are dissolved into water.
Bacteria works to keep the water in the pond clean by breaking down proteins.
Finally, I should point out that DNA taken after the parents koi is largely affected by
water condition and environment.
Therefore, those are crucial factors with Koi’s body, skin complexions.
Whether or not water condition and environment are optimum heavily dependant upon
filtering materials and bacteria.
I am summarizing check points as following in the hope that you would apply as
routine work.
【Check point】
On daily basis
A Check the clarity of water in the pond
B. Check if white bubbles appear upon water surface.
C. Check how Koi swims (motionless Koi would get sick)
D. Check appetite for feed to see if there are left-over.
(it might be missed due to prevailing auto-feeder)
On regular basis
A Measurement on pH
B Measurement on ammonia
C Measurement on nitrite
Filter tank
A Clean up on regular basis.
B Check if there are sludges.
C. Check if sufficient amount of oxigen is supplied for bacteria.
Provided using optimum filtering materials and bacteria, clean-up on filtering tank
can only be done once in a few months. Cost efficiency is to be achieved in several
aspects such as labor cost, medication cost..etc.
To attach importance on filtering materials and bacteria work in favour for all that
matters.
Without bacteria, filtering system is meaningless considering its performance.
The better water condition will be, the better the Koi will become not to
mention for disease prevention.
